New Delhi:
One killed while 22 others received major injuries after a car ploughed into a group of pedestrians at New York's Times Square Wednesday, causing chaos at one of the most popular tourist spots.
The police managed to arrest the accused with the help of civilians. The accused was reportedly found in the inabriated state, police said.
According to preliminary information, at 1155 hrs a 2009 Honda Accord mounted the sidewalk at W.42St & 7th Avenue in which 1 person has been killed and 22 others received serious injuries.Â
The man who was driving the car, Richard Rojas, was a former US navy officer and had been arrested twice in the past over drink and driving charges.
The 22 people injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals and NYPD detectives from multiple units are investigating the incident, said New York Police.
There is no indication at this point that the incident in #TimesSquare is related to terrorism. More information to follow.
