Bomb explodes at Indian restaurant in Canada's Mississauga, 15 injured

New Delhi:

At least 15 people were injured after a bomb exploded at an Indian restaurant in Mississauga, Canada, local media reported. The police and paramedics rushed to the spot after the blast at the Bombay Bhel restaurant.

“2 suspects attended the scene, detonated an Improvised Explosive Device within the restaurant. Several injured were taken to local hospital and 3 in critical condition were taken to a Toronto Trauma Centre,” Peel Regional Police tweeted.

The suspects, with their face covered in black cloth, fled the scene immediately after the incident. The police, looking for public’s assistance in identifying the suspects that fled following the explosion, released their description.

Of the 15 injured, at least three people were in critical condition, a Peel Paramedics spokesperson told Global News. The blast took place at 10:30 pm (08:00 am IST).

It was not immediately known as how many people were inside the restaurant when the incident took place. The restaurant was evacuated by the police after the incident.

Meanwhile, Indian External Minister Sushma Swaraj said that she was in contact with Indian High Commissioner in Canada and released an Emergency helpline number. 

"There is a blast in Indian restaurant Bombay Bhel in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. I am in constant touch with our Consul General in Toronto & Indian High Commissioner in Canada. Our missions will work round the clock. Emergency no is +1-647-668-4108," Swaraj said.

The blast came a month after a man driving a rented van barrelled down Yonge Street in Toronto, killing 10 pedestrians and injuring 16.
