New Delhi:

A gun attack was executed at a nightclub in Istanbul on early hours of Sunday, said city’s governor. At least 35 people have been killed in the gun attack.

40 other people were wounded in the assault which took place in the early hours of Sunday during a New Year’s Eve celebration, said Vasip Sahin.

As per media reports, the gunman entered Istanbul nightclub dressed as Santa Claus.

Gov. Vasip Sahin said the attacker, armed with a long-barreled weapon, killed a policeman and a civilian outside the club before entering and firing on people partying inside. He did not say who may have carried out the attack.

"Unfortunately (he) rained bullets in a very cruel and merciless way on innocent people who were there to celebrate New Year's and have fun," Sahin told reporters.
