As Lahore records heaviest rainfall in 38 years, the death toll due to it rose to 15 on Thursday, according to reports.
As torrential rains that started to hit the country on Tuesday continued on Thursday, Punjab remains the worst hit province of Pakistan, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said in a statement.
Lahore received 238 mm rainfall till Tuesday, breaking the 38-year-old record of the capital of Pakistan’s Punjab province.
Several low-lying areas have been inundated by the rains, and most of the deaths were caused by electrocution and collapse of building caused by the heavy downpour, according to the officials.
The heavy downpour exposed flaws in the sewer system of Lahore, which flooded some of the city’s streets.
The rescue work by the provincial disaster management authority is underway.
