At least 35 people were killed after an explosive device went off on Monday night inside a truck parked on the route former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif  is to take on Wednesday for a public rally in Lahore.

Pakistani officials told the media that the explosive were placed in the truck laden with fruits on the Out Fall Road. 

DIG Haider Ashraf confirmed that it was a bomb blast and said that the blast has created a huge crater at the blast site.

Ashraf added, "At least 35 people have suffered injuries in the incident. A minor girl is stated to be critical," he said.

Pakistan Police and its investigative agencies are yet to determine the kind of explosive material used in the incident. 

The security forces probing the blast have learnt that the truck was parked the incident site for the past three days. 

Officials added Sharif was initially scheduled to travel from Islamabad to Lahore via the famous Grand Trunk Road on Sunday, but the rally was postponed to Wednesday.

PTI quoting its sources wrote, “It appears the explosive device was to target Sharif's cavalcade," 

Lahore, the cultural capital of Pakistan, has witnessed several terror attacks in recent months.
