New Delhi:
Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg will take the responsibility for the social network’s failure to protect users’ private data and prevent the manipulation of the platform, as per the testimony released before his first Congressional appearance.
Zuckerberg on Monday said that Facebook didn’t do enough to prevent the misuse of its users’ data over the past few years and offered an apology.
He said that he started Facebook and he was responsible for whatever happens on the platform.
The 33-year-old will testify before the senators on Tuesday and a House panel on Wednesday in the midst of a firestorm over the breach of data of millions of users by British firm Cambridge Analytica, a firm which worked on Donald Trump’s campaign.
Zuckerberg on Monday took to Facebook to write that one of his top priorities in 2018 is to ensure that the platform prevents interference and misinformation in elections.
He stated, ''Facebook is establishing an independent election research commission which will solicit research on the effects of social media on elections and democracy’’.

The social media giant from Monday started alerting its 87 million users, including 5,62,455 in India, whose data might have been breached.
The US-based company offered information to the users regarding the apps they use and also the information they have shared with those apps.
