Washington:

White House press secretary Sean Spicer has apologized for “insensitive” remarks during a press briefing in which he asserted that Adolf Hitler did not use chemical weapons on his own people.

“Frankly, I mistakenly used an inappropriate and insensitive comment about the Holocaust and there is no comparison,” Spicer told CNN on Tuesday. “For that I apologize. It was a mistake to do that.”

Earlier while comparing Hitler to Syria’s Bashar al-Assad, Spicer said Hitler “didn’t even sink to using chemical weapons”.

An April 4 chemical weapons attack in northern Syria left nearly 90 people dead, and the US has blamed Assad. Turkey’s health minister said on Wednesday that test results confirm sarin gas was used.
