The case of Rohit Shekhar Tiwari's, son of former Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand chief minister ND Tiwari, suspicious death has been transferred to the Crime Branch after his autopsy report revealed that he died due to smothering. Following the development, a team of Crime Branch reached his residence to carry out investigation and find evidence, if any.

Rohit died on Tuesday in New Delhi less than six months after his father died at the age of 93 in October last year. Rohit Shekhar was brought dead to Max Hospital in Saket. While the servants at his house told police that he suffered nose bleed, his mother Ujjwala Tiwari claimed that her son died natural death.

"His death is natural. I have no suspicion, but I will reveal later what circumstances led to his death," Rohit's mother Ujjwala Tiwari, who was admitted to the same hospital where he was brought, had said.

With the autopsy report raising doubts about Ujjwala’s claims of natural death and Crime Branch taking over the case, the mystery behind the untimely death has deepened further.

Rohit had fought a six-year-long legal battle to prove that he was ND Tiwari's "biological" son born out of an affair between the former Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand chief minister and his mother Ujjwala. Tiwari married Rohit's mother at the age of 89 in 2014 after Rohit won the paternity suit against him.
