West Bengal textbook depicts Farhan Akhtar as Milkha Singh

News Nation Bureau New Delhi Updated on: 19 Aug 2018, 22:37 PM

In what could be an embarrassment to the West Bengal government, a school textbook had used a photograph of Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar to depict athlete Milkha Singh, which had gone viral on the social media.

Farhan Akhtar took to Twitter urging the Bengal government to rectify the “glaring error”.

“To the Minister of School Education, West Bengal. There is a glaring error with the image used in one of the school text books to depict Milkha Singh-ji. Could you please request the publisher to recall and replace this book? Sincerely,” Akhtar wrote, while retweeting the image shared by a Twitter user.

The publisher had used Farhan’s picture, who portrayed Milkha Singh in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, instead of the iconic track athlete’s photo.

Education Minister Partha Chatterjee, reacting to the issue, said the government would look into it.

“We have been informed about Akhtar’s tweet. We are inquiring into it. We are trying to find out the details about the textbook, of which class and which publication. We will take necessary steps after getting all the details,” he told reporters in Kolkata.
