At least four passengers were killed and one other sustained serious injuries after a passenger AC bus at Agra-Lucknow expressway in Karhal Tehsil of Mainpuri district caught fire. The incident happened on Sunday night when the driver lost control over the wheel and the bus collided with the divider. After the collision, the bus caught fire which engulfed the entire vehicle in no time.

One of the travelers informed the fire brigade team which later reached the spot and doused the flames. It was not yet clear how many passengers were there in the bus but four of them died on the spot. The person who sustained burn injuries was shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The Lucknow bound roadways bus had left from Delhi’s Anand Vihar bus stop.

Six killed, scores injured as bus falls into gorge in Maharashtra's Palghar

In a separate incident, at least six passengers were killed and 30 others injured on Sunday when their bus fell into a gorge in Maharashtra's Palghar district. The incident had occurred at around 2:45 pm in Toranganghat between Mokhada and Trimbakeshwar villages, the police said.

The Gujarat bound private bus had started from Nashik in north Maharashtra. The deceased were returning to Surat after having darshan of Saibaba in Shirdi, the police said. According to officials, the reason behind the accident is said to be the failure of brakes of the bus. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences to the victims and said that the Maharashtra Government will provide all the help to the victims and their bereaved families.

"The bus accident in Maharashtra’s Palghar is unfortunate. My thoughts are with the bereaved families and prayers with those injured. The Maharashtra Government will provide all possible assistance to those affected," the prime minister's office tweeted.
