Akshay Kumar starrer PadMan is doing wonders at the box office. The social drama which was opened at an amazing response on February 9 maintained the momentum even on Tuesday.

Also starring Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor in pivotal roles, the movie managed to mint a stupendous amount of Rs 5.87 crore on Monday taking its total to Rs 45.92 crore.

Famous biz analyst Taran Adarsh on Tuesday took to micro-blogging site Twitter and announced the 4th day box office collection of the flick.

"#PadMan maintains its pace on Mon... Fri 10.26 cr, Sat 13.68 cr, Sun 16.11 cr, Mon 5.87 cr. Total: ₹ 45.92 cr. India biz... Overseas opening weekend: $ 2.31 million [₹ 14.84 cr]," Adarsh wrote.

The story of PadMan revolves around the life of social activist Arunachalam Murugnantham, who introduced low-cost sanitary napkins for the women in rural areas.

Helmed by R Balki, the movie aims to diminish a social taboo in India - menstrual hygiene.

Moreover, in order to take their message to a million others, the makers of the flick adopted an aggressive strategy where Akshay Kumar announced the PadMan challenge. The 'Rustom' actor asked others to post a picture with a sanitary napkin in hand and also nominate others for the challenge. The strategy was quite successful and Bollywood biggies like Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Sonam Kapoor and Tiger Shroff took part in the same.

"I always wanted to work and make such films but I was not a producer during that time. I didn't have enough money, but now I can. My wife told me about Arunachalam Muruganantham and then we met R Balki. So we thought about making this movie. Even Hollywood does not have a single film on sanitary pads or menstrual hygiene. People always make documentaries but they don't want to make commercial films because they want to shy away from the issue. We have tried to do that," IANS quoted Akshay Kumar.

However, success of PadMan clearly shows that India is opening up to taboo topics like menstruation. Produced by Twinkle Khanna, the movie is expected to continue its rage in the box office.
