The ‘punar janam’ concept isn’t new in Bollywood. We have seen a lot of movies of the same line like ‘Karan Arjun’, ‘Om Shanti Om’, ‘Neel Kamal’, ‘Karz’ and the latest one being Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra’s ‘Mirziya’. And now debutant director Dinesh Vijan has added his recent release ‘Raabta’ in this league. Starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon in the lead, ‘Raabta’ is the modern age reincarnation drama infused with the fresh chemistry with a twist of a love comet.

Yes! This love comet called as ‘dhoom-ketu’, which is said to be passing the earth in 1000 years, has a pretty important role to play in Kriti-Sushant's love story.

The movie begins with the introduction of a cute Punjabi bloke Shiv Kakkar played by Sushant Singh Rajput, who has this flirty, playboy kind of image. However, his life changes when he meets Saira played by Kriti Sanon in Budapest. Soon, love is all around and you get to see an amazing chemistry between Shiv and Saira. They are quirky, fun loving, mad and just crazy about each other. The love filled moments in the movie are beautifully captured by the director and the stunning locales of the European city will make you go mushy on their super cute love affair.

But the moment you find yourself completely engrossed in Shiv and Saira’s ‘oh-so-perfect’ love story, their comes a blast from the past taking the story to an altogether different level.

‘Neerja’ actor Jim Sarbh plays the role of an antagonist once again, however, this time as a crazy, insane lover who is extremely rich. The actor didn’t have to put in much efforts for his role as his intense looks and body language will itself make you hate him for being the devil of this so-far-so-cute love story.

But just like every Bollywood movie has ‘all’s well, that ends well’ theory, ‘Raabta’ does have a super cute ending as well.

Talking about the story line, it is quite engaging in the first half, but looses its track post interval as the movie transits to the past. I personally failed to connect with Saira and Shiv’s previous life love story where Kriti is seen as princess Sahiba and Sushant plays tribal warrior Jalaan. Unfortunately, this confused reincarnation drama fails to get back on track post interval.

Lead pair Sushant and Kirti looks perfect in their roles of Shiv and Saira respectively. Though, Kriti does look predictable at times, Sushant has given one of his best performances in 'Raabta'. His cute expressions made all those irritatingly cheesy lines sound too cute. While one can just fall in love with Sushant-Kriti’s modern day love story, the makers fail to leave an impact when it came to ‘pichle janam ki kahani’ thing.

But despite all the odds, this Dinesh Vijan directorial will manage to leave a smile on your face as you leave the cinema hall. Apart from awe-inspiring impression left by Sushant and Kriti’s sizzling chemistry, what else you can take home from ‘Raabta’ is the music, which does makes you get engrossed in the movie. Besides, Deepika Padukone’s dance number, I won’t call it an item number by any chance, needs a special mention as the diva looks ravishing in the song.

You can watch ‘Raabta’ for Sushant Singh Rajput’s quirky Punjabi boy avatar and his credible chemistry with Kriti Sanon. However, you might get disappointed with the couple’s past life story and the punar-janam angle.
