Pulwama Attack: J&K withdraws security of 5 separatists, including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq

The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Sunday withdrew the security of five separatists. Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s security cover has also been withdrawn. Abdul Ghani Bhat, Bilal Lone, Hashim Qureshi, Shabir Shah are among the others. "We are issuing orders withdrawing all security and any govt facilities provided to separatist leaders Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Abdul Ghani Bhat, Bilal Lone, Hashim Qureshi and Shabir Shah. All security and any vehicles provided to them will stand withdrawn by today evening,” J&K government said in a statement.

On Saturday, Home Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the security situation in the country, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, two days after the killing of 40 CRPF jawans in an audacious terror attack in Pulwama, officials said. The meeting was attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval among others. "There are elements and forces who take money from Pakistan and the ISI. I have asked the officials concerned to review their security," Singh had told reporters at the end of his day-long visit to Kashmir. "Such people are playing with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the future of the state's youth. Our war against terror is in a decisive phase and I want to assure the nation that we will win it," he said.Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a hard-hitting speech had said that the "blood of the people is boiling" and forces behind the act of terrorism will be definitely punished.India also hiked the customs duty to 200 percent on all goods imported from Pakistan following withdrawal of the 'most-favoured nation' status accorded to Pakistan.On Saturday, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq denounced the assault on Kashmiris in Jammu and various other states. "The fanatic elements have got a great excuse and are let loose who are executing their communal agenda by targeting Kashmiris,” Mirwaiz said in a statement.The Hurriyat chairman said it is incumbent upon the government of these states “to control these elements and ensure the safety of Kashmiris wherever they are being attacked and harassed and their properties vandalised and burnt down”.

At least 42 CRPF personnel were killed on Thursday in one of the deadliest terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir when a Jaish suicide bomber rammed a vehicle carrying over 80 kg of explosives into their bus in Pulwama district that also left many critically wounded. More than 2,500 Central Reserve Police Force personnel, many of them returning from leave to rejoin duty in the Valley, were travelling in the convoy of 78 vehicles when they were ambushed on the Srinagar-Jammu highway at Latoomode in Awantipora in south Kashmir.
