In a first major decision towards re-structuring the party following Lok Sabha drubbing, the Congress on Monday dissolved all its district committees in Uttar Pradesh with immediate effect. In a press note signed by party general secretary KC Venugopal Rao, the Congress formed a two-member committee for each seat going into by-poll to oversee election preparations and management.

A three-member disciplinary committee has also been formed to examine the complaints of gross indiscipline during the recently held Lok Sabha elections. The party has appointed Ajay Kumar Lallu in-charge of organisation reshuffle in Uttar Pradesh east. The name of in-charge of making organisational changes in Uttar Pradesh West will be decided by Jyotiraditya Scindia.

The changes were proposed by the Congress general secrataries of UP east and west - Priyanka Gandhi and Scindia, respectively. Both Priyanka and Scindia were given the charge of party's campaigning during the Lok Sabha elections. However, the Congress performed miserably in the elections and even lost Rahul Gandhi's traditional Amethi seat.

After the poll drubbing, the Congress party had said that it will go through major organsiational restructure on large scale. The party started the changes from politically significant Uttar Pradesh.

When the Congress party appointed Priyanka Gandhi as general secratary of UP east, several leaders said that while she will look after the party's campaigning in Lok Sabha elections, her appointment was aimed at the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
