In a major breakthrough to Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) president Ankiv Baisoya's fake degree case, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the students' wing of the RSS, on Thursday asked him to resign from his post. The ABVP also relieved him of all organisational responsibilities till the enquiry in the fake degree case is over.

"We have asked DUSU President Ankiv Baisoya to resign from his post and also expelled him from all the responsibilities of the organization till the inquiry is over (in fake degree case): Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP)," the news agency ANI reported.

Earlier on Monday, the Delhi High Court gave the varsity time till November 20 to verify the authenticity of DUSU president Ankiv Baisoya's bachelor's degree from a university in Tamil Nadu.

The rift started days after Baisoya beat NSUI student leader Sunny Chillar and had been elected the DUSU president in September 2018. Apart from NSUI, the students' wing of the Congress, several other organisations started raising questions about the authenticity of Ankiv’s degree.

NSUI leader Chillar filed a plea seeking to set aside of Baisoya's election, alleging that the registrar of Thiruvalluvar University in Tamil Nadu "unambiguously and unequivocally" declared that Baisoya's certificate was "fake and forged".

Talking about the latest development, ABVP state secretary Bharat Khatana said, “This incident is tarnishing the image of DUSU… so we request DU administration to complete the verification process as soon as possible.”

In case Baisoya is found guilty he must go through legal procedures, Khatana added.
