How PM Narendra Modi will snub Pakistan on Kashmir at United Nations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to address the United Nations General Assembly next month. According to latest media reports, PM Modi will address the world gathering at New York on September 27. The development was confirmed after the United Nations released the provisional list of the world leaders scheduled to speak at the 74th session of the United Nations. The General Debate at the United Nations will begin on September 24 and continue till September 30. Before arriving in New York for the session at the United Nations General Assembly, PM Modi is likely to visit Houston where he will address the Indian-American community on September 22.

But in the backdrop of the abrogation of the Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, it would be interesting to see how the two nuclear neighbours will strategize their international relations. According to a report by The Hindustan Times, Pm Modi is likely to focus on global issue during his address at the United Nations General Assembly. The speech may not have any mention of Kashmir, the report said. Rather, PM Modi will talk about global issues such as sustainable living, climate crisis and universal health coverage. This would go with India’s standard policy that Kashmir is an internal issue. With this tack, PM Modi will not only snub Pakistan but also deter Islamabad’s plan to internationalise Kashmir issue.

The HT report said that Imran Khan will also address the UNGA. As expected, Khan will talk about so-called ‘human right violations’ in the Valley. This would be the first UNGA address by the Prime Minister Modi during his second term.

India and Pakistan have been involved in terse war of words ever since the Modi government scrapped Article 370 that gave special power to Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, frustrated over lack of any global support, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan harked back to the Nazi-RSS links as he launched an attack against the Narendra Modi government. In a series of tweets, Khan said that the India’s nuclear arsenal were not safe under Modi regime and it poses threat to Pakistan and the world at large. “India has been captured, as Germany had been captured by Nazis, by a fascist, racist Hindu Supremacist ideology & leadership.This threatens 9m Kashmiris under siege in IOK for over 2 weeks which shd have sent alarm bells ringing across the world with UN Observers being sent there (sic),” Khan said.
