Yogi Adityanath turns ‘doctor’, says excess production of sugarcane leads to diabetes
After Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb’s daffy remarks about ducks, it seems that Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has taken over the job now. During a road inauguration programme in UP’s Baghpat, Adityanath turned ‘dr Adityanath’ and suggested people to grow other crops besides sugarcane. He thinks that excess production of sugarcane leads to diabetes.
"You must start growing other crops besides sugarcane. Excess production of sugarcane leads to its more consumption, which, in turn causes sugar (diabetes)," ANI quoted Adityanath as saying.
The Bhagpat area, where CM Adityanath was speaking, falls in western Uttar Pradesh where sugarcane production is high and most farmers in the area face the issue of delayed payments by sugar mills.

As per the Cane Development and Sugar Industry Department (CDSID) in Lucknow, payments of sugarcane farmers worth Rs 8,108 crore were pending as of April 4 across the state.
Instead of tackling the issue of delayed payments, Adityanath’s advice to reduce sugarcane production, citing the reason that it causes diabetes, didn’t go down well with Twitterati who were quick enough to mock the UP CM.
While some users nominated him for a Nobel, others thought he would be a strong competitor to Tripura CM Biplab Deb.
