RP Singh announces retirement from all forms of cricket

Exactly 13 years after making his international debut, Indian left-arm seamer Rudra Pratap Singh or RP Singh has decided to hang his boots and retire from all forms of cricket. RP Singh, who won the T20 World Cup in 2007 has represented India in 58 ODIs, 14 Tests, 10 T20Is between 2005 and 2011.

RP Singh took to microblogging platform Twitter to announce his retirement from cricket and shared a heartfelt note in which he revealed why he took announced his decision exactly after 13 years of his debut against Zimbabwe in a One Day International.

“13 years ago today, on 4th September 2005 was the first time I donned the Indian jersey. It was the stepping-stone to what would become the most cherished moments of my life. Today, as I hang my boots and call it a day I wish to remember and give thanks to each and everyone who made this journey possible,” he penned an emotional note.

“For someone born in a small village, I never thought I would be able to say this – I have lived my dream. And for that I have nobody else to thank but you. My fans. For believing in me. For criticizing me and for hailing me but mainly for just being there for me. Thank you!”

The 32-year-old left armer has scalped 69 wickets in 48 ODIs, and 40 wickets in 14 Test, while in T20Is he has 15 wickets to his name.

The Uttar Pradesh pacer had also won the Purple Cap (highest wicket taker) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2009 with a total of 23 wickets for Deccan Chargers helping them lift the trophy in South Africa.

RP Singh had made his Test debut in January 2006 against Pakistan and took a fifer against the arch-rivals on debut. He was the star bowler for the Men in Blue in the inaugural edition of the ICC World Twenty20 in South Africa in 2007 as he took 12 wickets in six games in the tournament.
