World Wrestling Championship: Bajrang Punia settles for silver in Budapest

Arjuna awardee Bajrang Punia settled for silver in the 65 kg category of the World Wrestling Championship after losing to Japan’s Takuto Otoguro in the final at Budapest on Monday night.

The 24-year-old Bajrang lost to 19-year-old Takuto Otoguro 9-16 in a 65kg gold medal bout, in which the Japanese proved to be technically superior to the Indian.

However, even in the defeat, Bajrang created history for the country by becoming the first Indian to win two world championship medals, having clinched a bronze in the 2013 edition.

Punia had also won the gold medal in the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games earlier this year.
