World’s most popular video streaming service Netflix announced this week that it would bring its internet TV network in India along with other 130 new countries.

The streaming service aims to cater the ‘cord cutters’ audience which is more interested in watching their favorite shows and movies on internet rather than on televisions.

Netflix works with  a variety of devices ranging from play stations, smartphones,tablets, laptops to a smart tv.

Its entry into the Indian market is set to change both the television and OTT (over the top) content industry.

Here are some of the things you should know about Netflix in India:

1.How is it priced in India?

The first month of access is free for all users, as part of its launch strategy. Netflix India has come up with quite affordable Rs 500 to watch shows and movies on a single screen at one time. An initial signup fee is charged to authenticate the card.

2.How it plans to cater the audience?

In India, Netflix is offering three plans, Basic plan (Rs500) per month, Standard plan (Rs 650) per month and Premium (Rs 800) a month. Once a user sign ups, they can watch unlimited hours of movies and tv shows on Netflix.

3.Is the content censored?

While you sign up, you would have to specify your age, if its above 18 there is not going to be much of censorship on the content. Netflix also lets you identify children so that they don’t get access to any adult content.

4.You can cancel the subscription anytime

You can cancel the subscription any time at the single click of a button.

5.What is the video quality?

Netflix is offering Standard Definition videos on its basic package of Rs 500 and HD streaming at Rs 650 plan. For Rs 800 monthly plan users will get Ultra HD (4K) videos.

6.How many devices you can use?

For basic plan they can use their Netflix account on only one device at a time. For Standard users, the account can be used on two devices simultaneously. The premium plan allows four people to use the same Netflix account for video streaming simultaneously.

7.Content categorisation

When it comes to India, Netflix has divided the content into two. First up, the content they offer in US and other countries. This has an inclusion of a massive library of Hollywood movies, TV shows from other studios and broadcasters, as well as a rather solid line-up of TV shows that are Netflix Originals. 

The second category which is available is the local Indian content. Under this comes the Indian movies and TV shows.The movie list includes Piku, Lootera, Heropanti, Youngistaaanand even some fairly old stuff such as Andaaz Apna Apna,Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and Shor In The City.
