It was Rohit Sharma’s day in Perth as he scored a mammoth 171 runs in the first match of 2016 against Australia. But his century went in vain as Aussies won the match by 5 wickets. It was a good start for Rohit but not so good for Men in Blue.
The Mumbai batsman, who is making a habit of scoring huge centuries and registering his name in record books, is the only man to score two double centuries in ODIs.
On a WACA pitch, Rohit studded with 13 boundaries and 7 maximums scored 171 and surpassed Sir Vivian Richards, as the highest ODI score by a visiting batsman in Australia versus Australia. Earlier, the great West Indian had scored 153 in 1979.
Not only Richards, the stylish right handed batsman also surpassed Sourav Ganguly's 141, highest ODI score by an Indian in Down Under.
During the match, Rohit joins Sachin Tendulkar to become the batsman with most 170+ scores in ODIs as both have done it thrice. He also became the first Indian to score a ton in Perth and carried his bat.
The Indian opener also joins VVS Laxman to score second-most ODI centuries against Australia as they both have 4, behind Tendulkar's 9.
