Bengaluru:

Promising Bengaluru Bulls’ all-rounder Srikant Tewthia today said Kabaddi players do not crave for money and he is playing in the Pro Kabaddi League for taking the sport to new heights.

“No Kabaddi players think of making money and I made myself available for Bengaluru Bulls not for money, but for taking the sport to new heights at international level,” Tewthia told PTI.

“I chose Kabaddi because, the village in which I live, has produced international players - Neeraj Tewthia and Sunil Tewthia. Moreover, no other sport is played in my village. So, I was always hooked to this sport,” he said.

Asked about his role model, Tewthia said he has been inspired by Kirpal and his relative Kaluram, who was an international player, who died due to cancer.

He said he was picked for Bengaluru Bulls after coach Randhir Singh noticed his performances during nationals and some other important domestic matches.

“I always wanted to play under him (Randhir Singh) - he is a tremendous coach. I am fortunate that I have fulfilled my dreams,” he added.

Replying to a query, Tewthia said there is a lot of difference in terms of management and coaching between Delhi Dabang and Bengaluru teams.

Throwing further light on different coaching style of Bengaluru Bulls, Tewthia said Singh makes a thorough research on a player and fixes up his weaknesses.

Last season Tewthia had played for Delhi.

“Our coach is best in India. He helps players eradicate their weaknesses. Take my example, he worked on my weaknesses and helped me overcome them, and as a result, my performance has been good. Most of us live like a family,” Tewthia said.

Replying to a query, Tewthia said he never faced any opposition from his parents to make Kabaddi a career, and his father supported him the most, financially as well.

“My father gave me lot of support and never said no to me whenever there was need for money,” he said.
