New Delhi :

Periods, Menstrual cramps, mensis are some words that define those 5 days of your monthly cycle.

Being born with a uterus can be irksome for some especially who suffer painful periods. The cramps, pain and rage can put your body out of action for another week.

And, if your periods are heavy, painful and sickening, it is time you visit a gynecologist. But have you ever wondered why they are painful? What is the reason behind that painful monthly cycle. We tell you, it can be the result of:

  • Uterine Fibroids which are non-cancerous growths and are painful as hell only if they touch the uterus lining.
  • Endometriosis is the disorder where the (inner) lining of your womb grows outside the uterus. It thickens and bleeds with each menstrual cycle.
  • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease which is an infection of the female reproductive organs. It is the most serious complication of a sexually transmitted disease.
  • Other reasons which can be blamed for are no exercise, bad diet or age factor.
