Noida to get new traffic cell for hassle free flow

The city of Noida will soon have a new traffic cell in Sector 94, near Clover Leaf that will ensure smooth and hassle-free movement of traffic. The responsibility of the construction was undertaken by the Noida Authority in October 2014. The cell will work under the care of the Command Control Centre Building and will be used for the purposes of CCTV Camera Surveillance and the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) Project.

The main functions of this cell includes traffic monitoring of the entire city, time synchronisation through all the red lights, managing public transport buses and assigning the routes for other public transports like tempos and taxis.

"The traffic cell is planned to comprise of officials from the Road Transport Department, Noida Traffic Police and Noida Authority. We have also planned to increase the number of CCTV cameras to closely monitor the Noida-Greater Noida expressway; which will help us to formulate plans to improve the worsening traffic situation," said Saumya Srivastava, Deputy CEO of Noida Authority.

Functional since February 2015, the ITMS Project was awarded by the Union Ministry of Urban Development as the "Best Practice Project for Urban Transport". It primarily monitores the long stretch of Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and has brought down the number of road accidents per year by 23 pc. Along with ensuring swift traffic movement, the ITMS Project also provides monitoring tunnels and highways, traffic advisory information and relief measures in the time of an accident.
