New Delhi:

A day after Vijay Mallya denied that he gave an interview to The Sunday Guardian, the newspaper on Tuesday released an email trail. The emails show the newspaper’s interview with the liquor baron. Mallya had said in the email interview that it was “not the right time for him to return to India.”

"I am an Indian to the core. Of course I want to return. But I am not sure I'll get a fair chance to present my side. I've already been branded as criminal. I do not feel the time is right." the newspaper quoted an email from Mallya as saying.
Mallya left the country on March 2 and posted a series of tweets asserting that he was not an absconder but just an international businessman.

Mallya had on Monday claimed that he never gave any interview to the newspaper. "Shocked to see media statements that I gave an interview to Sunday Guardian without verification. I have not given any statement to anyone," Mallya tweeted on Monday night.

Standing by its report the newspaper put the email trail online with the subject line, "Interview for the Sunday Guardian newspaper".

"I urge you not to misquote me or twist my words to suit any narrative. Please use my answers as it is," Mallya supposedly says in his reply to the reporter.

"I don't think it is wise for me to reveal my whereabouts. For now, I want to feel safe," says another reply, purportedly from Mallya.
