New Delhi:

Kareena and Arjun Kapoor's 'Ki and Ka' is a drama that could have been the landmark movie to bring gender equality change in society, but it ends up being the one which is hard to digest, may be this is why Digene and Gelusil are twice in the offering.

Toasted to homemaker and twisted to role reversal, the film is an attempt to inject the sense that man must contribute equally like woman while making a home. The concept is something that is revolutionising but the execution doesn’t do justice with the film; R Balki must concentrate on not stretching the play while delivering a simple thought.

SPOILER ALERT!

Kabir (Arjun Kapoor), son of an affluent builder, with no ambition in life but a desire to be like his mother (a housewife), meets Kia (Kareena Kapoor) – a girl with supreme dreams to conquer the world. They fell in love and decide to tie the knot only on one condition that they will pursue what they want from their lives. As they enter the new phase, 'Ki and Ka' unfolds various issues like wrath from parents, people’s societal perceptions and also the problems that arises due to financial dependency of one on the other.

'Ki and Ka' should have been a film that is loud on its unmatched concept but in a bid to stay entertainer it speaks very less about the real gist. As mentioned in the movie Romance ka maja dheere dheere hi aata hai (Romance can only be enjoyed when the pace is slow), the dialogue depicts all about the film; it is just romance and a craving to fast forward the pace of it.

Even though R Balki manages to touch different aspects of life, many questions remain unanswered in the movie. For instance, why having a kid would stop woman from achieving her dreams, when the husband is ready to take all the responsibilities of nurturing the baby.

WATCH TRAILER HERE:

The film has been made with an ideology that every man acts like a hurdle in his wife’s dream to success. Interestingly, Big B is not spared from it too. R Balki has never made a film without injecting legendary Amitabh Bachchan, expect a treat of watching the other side from Big B’s life in the movie.

In terms of performances, both Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor have justified their characters. No one could have replaced the couple as they craft the art of perfection in their expression. Arjun Kapoor is an artist, that’s what they claim and I agree. The guy has managed to remain calm and cool to give an extra pump to his character which lifts the humour of the film. Kareena didn’t get much time to express the talent she has in herself; it was more like a montage to the characters she has performed so far.

The film is a huge disappointment on musical notes. Seems like this is one of the sector where saving money was the only motto for the producers. High heels, remix version of Honey Singh’s original track with same title, starts and ends the film, rest songs are so not even worth writing and more importantly the background score is a complete copy paste of Shamitabh (2015).

FINAL VERDICT: The film is strictly for those who are looking for romance, entertainment and a quirky take on role reversal of a husband and wife. It is all about ‘home-maker’.
