New Delhi:

Light humour is good but only until they aren’t sexist. They are actually everywhere, online, trolls, books and these days restaurants as well. Imperfecto a restaurant and bar in Delhi’s Hauz Khas village faced backlash for a sexist joke. A chalkboard sign at Imperfecto read, “We don’t serve women. You must bring your own.”

Since noted film critic and writer-director Raja Sen posted this picture on Twitter immediately, the restaurant faced a lot of online backlash. After that many shared the post on Facebook and Twitter asking people to boycott the restaurant for silly sexist joke.

After much of the backlash, one of the restaurant owners Sharad Madan, decided to apologise on his Facebook page, “To begin with we would like to apologise if we hurt any sentiments. It was a post we saw online and felt like sharing. It was completely unintentional. However our intention was just the light humour,” he wrote.

Though for them it could be an innocuous remark but this just cannot be taken as light humour simply because it wasn’t. Quirky one-liners are good but until they do not streamline the gender bias, sexist remarks.

There is no doubt that Imperfecto made such an inperfect quirky joke on its chalkboard but its high time when we all should know what is funnily acceptable and what is not.
