New Delhi:

In order to learn about its shortcomings from the perspective of students, Delhi University has decided to conduct a quality assessment survey among the final year post graduate students asking them to rate the quality of education at varsity on various parameters.

The survey which will be conducted by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of DU is aimed at assessing the university’s services for its students and the areas that need to be improved to enhance quality of student experience.

“The university has been considering a feedback system for the professors, however, there has been some opposition to that. So, we have finally decided to have an evaluation system for each and every component of the university that contributes to student experience,” a senior DU official said.

“The team from NAAC which visits for evaluation also asks for student feedback data. However, they do not seek the feedback from students on their own but expect the concerned university or college to provide the same. So, this data will come handy then,” he added.

The quality assurance cell has come up with a feedback form divided into five sections - academic, infrastructure, support system, skills/competencies developed during course of study and overall university experience.

Different parameters on which students have been asked to rate their experience on a scale of 10 include content of syllabi, condition of lab equipment, facilities in hostels, experience with university’s administration staff, experience with particular teacher, opportunity to participate in seminar workshops and timely announcement of results, among others.

However, the university has not yet decided whether the feedback received by it for the teachers will be taken into account to evaluate their performance or not.
For now, the survey is only for post graduate students.  Depending upon its productivity, it might be taken up for undergraduate students as well.
