New Delhi :

Ireland’s middle order batsman Andrew Poynter, called it a day from international and inter-provincial cricket after eight years. Poynter at 29, played 19 One-Day Internationals and 19 Twenty20 Internationals, including two World Cups.

According to reports, he bid adieu the game because of his commitments off the field, and will now spend more time with his young family and catering to his own business.

Poynter's final appearance with Ireland came in March 2016 in World T20, against the Netherlands, in which he was out for a first-ball duck in a rain-curtailed match.

The Irish batsman will try his hand in coaching and spend more time with his family.  He scored a combined 474 runs and three half-centuries, averaging 19.61 in ODIs and 19.90 in T20Is. He played with his brother Stuart, a wicketkeeper-batsman, also part of Ireland's squad in the 2016 edition.

Poynter had started his county carrier with Middlesex in 2005.
