ISRO creates history! Interesting facts about PSLV C34/Cartosat-2 Series Satellite Mission

Indian Space Research Organisation on Wednesday launched record 20 satellites, including India's Cartosat-2 series, from Sriharikota's Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh.

Here are interesting facts about the historic Cartosat-2 Series Satellite mission.

1: Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle C-34 (PSLV) carried 17 foreign satellites from Canada, Indonesia, Germany and the US.

2: The main passenger satellite comes from the home land with the name Cartosat, which can take images at sub-meter resolution.

3: The other two Indian satellites are Sathyabhamasat and Swayam.

4: Among 13 US made small satellites there was one from Terra Bella, a Google-owned company. The 110-kg satellite by Google is capable of taking sub-meter resolution images and high definition video.

5: This was 36th launch by ISRO, the total cost of lifting 20 satellites into space is 10 times less than other space agencies.

6: The total weight of satellites Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle C-34 (PSLV) carried was 1288 kgs.

7: Cartosat-2 Series is similar to the earlier Cartosat-2, 2A and 2B, and 19 co-passenger satellites together weighing about 560 kg at lift-off would be injected into a 505-km polar Sun Synchronous Orbit.

8: With 20 satellites, ISRO has beaten its previous record of placing 10 satellites in one go.

9: Till date, India has launched 57 foreign satellites from about 20 countries, earning about $100 million.
