India were left to rue a missed opportunity in tennis with Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna's mixed doubles semifinal loss after Lalita Babar became the first woman in three decades to enter the final of a track event at Rio Olympic 2016.

Woman steeplechaser Lalita Babar clipped nearly seven seconds off the existing national mark in the qualifiers to make a storming entry into the final of the gruelling event in the Rio Olympic Games 2016, but compatriot Sudha Singh fell by the wayside and exited.

Lalita clocked a national mark of 9 minutes, 19.76 seconds while finishing fourth in heat 2 and progressed to the final, scheduled on August 15, on the basis of being among the fastest six from the rest who did not directly qualify from the three preliminary heats.

The Indian women's hockey team suffered a humiliating 0-5 loss against higher-ranked Argentina in their final Pool B fixture to end their campaign at the Rio Olympics. Martina Cavallero (16th minute, 29th), Maria Granatto (23rd), Carla Rebecchi (26th) and Agustina Albertarrio (27th) scored for Argentina, while India drew a blank to slump to their fourth successive loss.

Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna suffered a sudden mid-match slump to fritter away a great opportunity as they lost the mixed doubles semifinal from a position of strength to Americans Venus Williams and Rajeev Ram at Rio Olympics 2016.

Indian pair Manu Attri/B Sumeeth Reddy on Sunday defeated Japan's H Endo/K Hayakawa 23-21, 21-11 in Badminton men's doubles at Rio Olympics 2016. Japan showed some courage in first set to give a tough competition but second set completely gone in favour of Indian men.
