NewDelhi:

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which he stated that the state will move an application before the Supreme Court on Monday seeking changes in the apex court’s order of September 20 on the Cauvery issue.

Siddaramaiah has informed PM Modi about the resolution passed by both the Houses of the Legislature on Friday. He stated that the petition will modify schedule of Cauvery water release to Tamil Nadu.

Earlier The Supreme Court, in its interim order on September 20, had directed Karnataka to release 6,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu upto September 27.

The state legislature on Friday passed a resolution directing that the “state government should not draw water from the existing storage in the four reservoirs of the state, and save the water to meet the drinking water needs of the towns and villages in Cauvery basin and for Bengaluru.”

The letter also states that “The government has no intention to disregard any of the orders of the Supreme Court,”.
