Microsoft announces association with Linux Foundation with Platinum membership

New York:

At the 2016 developer event in New York, software giant Microsoft has announced its association with Linux Foundation, which looks after the development of popular free operating system Linux.

Considering Linux at its arch rival at one point, the Satya Nadella-led conglomerate is joining Linux Foundation as a Platinum member, the highest level of membership.

Earlier leaderships of Microsoft has been very skeptical about the technical partnership and even had considered Linux a ‘threat’ but now with such a crucial move, the tech giant aim of working better with open source community developers.

The Linux Foundation is a nonprofit technology group that oversees open technology development and commercial adoption. The foundation also provides events, training and tools to scale any open-source project.

Reportedly, Microsoft already contributes to several of its projects, including Node.js Foundation, Open Daylight, Open Container Initiative, R Consortium, and Open API Initiative.

The American-multinational has also announced that it is working Samsung to develop apps for Tizen operating system using .NET platform.

Meanwhile, Google has also joined the independent .NET foundation to oversee the community around the .NET Programming Framework.
