India's maiden mission to Mars, Mangalyaan, has completed three years in orbit. An incredible image of the red planet clicked by Mangalyaan has become the cover picture of the National Geographic magazine.
This comes just days after the Mangalyaan found place on the new Rs 2000 currency note. Reports say a picture of Mars taken by the simple and low cost camera of Mangalyaan has found place in the prestigious magazine.
There are several other images of the full disc of the red planet but experts have acknowledge that the pics clicked by India's low cost Mars mission Mangalyaan are among the best ones.
Before Mangalyaan, there have been more than fifty Mars missions but they did not manage to click high quality pictures of the Red planet.
The Mangalyaan Mars mission cost Rs 450 crore and it’s been three years now that it is being beaming back data successfully.
On September 24, 2014, India had successfully place the Mangalyaan in the orbit around the Mars, thus scripting space history and entering into the elite club of three nations.
