New Delhi:

In a race of latest technology, versatile look and vibrant speed, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) on Monday announced a major stepping stone.

The second largest Indian car manufacturer has crossed the 7 million production mark. The South Korean brand achieved this milestone in 18 years, much faster than Maruti Suzuki, who is the only other car company that has produced more than 7 million cars in India.

The company’s manufacturing facility at Sriperumpudur near Chennai on Monday rolled out the seven millionth vehicle, a top variant of its sports utility vehicle Creta.

White Hyundai 'CRETA AT' had the distinction of being the seven millionth car rolled off production lines with the managing director of Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) Y K Koo and vice-president, production, Ganesh Mani S taking the driver's seat to mark the milestone at the company's facility in Sriperumpudur near Chennai on Monday.

“HMIL has always  set new benchmarks in terms of quality and  customer delight by introducing new products with new technology and design to the Indian market, demonstrating  superior manufacturing prowess,” HMIL Managing Director and CEO Y K Koo said in a statement.

The company’s ‘Made in India’ products have impressed global and Indian customers alike, he added. “We now have to move to realise our vision as announced during our 20th year of foundation on May 6, 2016, of being the market leader, great place to work, most loved and trusted brand with modern premium brand essence to touch 10 million units within the first half of 2021,” Koo said.

Of a total of 2.6 million passenger vehicles sold in India during FY15, 1.17 million units were sold by Maruti Suzuki while 420,668 unit sales were contributed by Hyundai Motors during the same period. Hyundai Motors, the largest exporter of passenger vehicles in the country, currently operates from two plants in Chennai with total capacity of 680,000 units per annum. A third plant is also in the offing which would considerably add to company growth in the future.
