New Delhi:

The Opposition once again cornered the Narendra Modi government over the scrapping of high-denomination currency of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 on the sixth day of the Winter Session of Parliament on Wednesday.

So far, both of the houses of Parliament have not been able to function due to continued demands of discussion on the currency overhaul exercise.

On Tuesday too, Parliament saw yet another day of washout with an aggressive Opposition raking up a fresh demand for Rs 10 lakh compensation to the kin of each of those who died due to problems post demonetisation. The Opposition also pressed for presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the debate on the issue.

Outside the house too, the opposition parties staged a protest demonstration against Centre. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi alleged that the banks witnessed a huge surge in deposits right before the demonetisation move. It indicates that BJP had prior knowledge of the proposed exercise.

"200 MPs are demanding that PM should clarify in the Parliament that why he took such step," adding that PM Modi doesn't  have courage to face the Parliament
