New Delhi:

The Karnataka high court on Thursday directed Vijay Mallya to appear before it on November 24 with respect to contempt petition filed by consortium of banks which lent money to his now defunct Kingfisher Airlines.

Justice Jayant M Patel, passed an order by observing that there is a 'prima facie' case to proceed against and frame charges under the contempt of courts act against Mallya for violating the oral undertaking given before Debt Recovery Tribunal in 2013.

The court also noted that since the undertaking was admitted, it has to be determined whether there was a breach of the undertaking affecting the sanctity of judicial proceedings. The court asked the counsel for Mallya to inform him about the order passed and the importance of his personal appearance.

Vijay Mallya is staying in London right now and in 2014 the consortium of banks led by State Bank of India has filed the petition which alleged that Mallya had violated the oral undertaking given to the tribunal to the effect not to transfer, alienate or otherwise to deal with his assets.
