Imphal:

Indian Army personnel recovered Rs 44 lakh in demonetised currency notes from an SUV at village Wairangba II in the hill district of Tamenglong in Manipur, an official release said in Imphal on Friday.

During a surprise check of vehicles, the armymen intercepted the SUV and found a bag containing Rs 44 lakh in the demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes on Thursday.

The occupants of the vehicle, including a woman, were arrested and handed over to the police, the release said.
