Tamil Nadu beloved Chief Minister  J Jayalalithaa died on Monday night at 11:30 in Chennai, after suffering a cardiac arrest on 4th December.  Jayalalithaa  had been battling for life for the last 75 days. She had complained of fever, dehydration and congestion on September 22, after which she had been in intensive care. The mortal remains of Jayalalithaa's, wrapped in tricolour, have been kept in Rajaji Hall to public to pay their last tribute to their leader. The body was taken from Apollo Hospital to her residence in Poes Garden at night.

As the news of J Jayalalithaa death broke, condolence and mourning started pouring in. Tamil Nadu announced 7- day state mourning Schools and colleges will be closed for three days.  Central government has also announced one-day national mourning.  Jayalalithaa's cremation would be done on Tuesday evening at 4:30PM on the historic Marina beach, with full state honours. It is noteworthly, that her mentor and iconic leader Marudhur Gopalan Ramachandran (MGR) was also cremated here.

PM Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee will be in Chennai to pay floral tribute to late leader. However, Congress Vice-President and Delhi Chief Minister will attend the funeral today.

The people’s CM has remained an enigma till her end for her pro-poor politics and her political acumen to hold on to her winning alliance. Jayalalithaa has been the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for a record six times, she was the sole decision maker of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, founded by her political mentor M.G. Ramachandran.
