Railway police seized old currency notes worth Rs 35 lakh and liquor bottle from an abandoned bag in Jan Shatabdi Express train in Gaya on Wednesday.

The seized currency was in old Rs 500 notes that were scrapped in the demonetisation exercise announced on November 8.

During a routine check, we found Rs 35 lakh in old 500 notes and 14 alcohol bottles from 3 unclaimed bags. We have started a probe into the matter,” ANI quoted inspector Sushil Kumar as saying.

This is the second major currency haul in a day.

On Tuesday,  police arrested BJP leader Manish Sharma from West Bengal with Rs 33 lakh cash. He was arrested from Ranigunj in Burdwan district with 33 lakh rupees in new 2000-denomination notes.
