New Delhi:

The 2016 Men's Hockey Junior World Cup shall get underway in Lucknow from Thursday. The premier junior tournament of international hockey shall be held from December 8 to December 16. The tournament shall be the 11th edition of the Men's Hockey Junior World Cup.

The top sixteen junior team's of world shall be battling against each other for lifting the coveted trophy.

The Hockey Junior World Cup, is an international field hockey competition organized by the International Hockey Federation (FIH). The first edition of the tournament was held in France in 1979. Pakistan had won the inaugural edition of the tournament held in France by beating West Germany. 

New Zealand will take on Japan in the opening encounter of the tournament. The opening match shall be followed by defending champions Germany taking on European compatriots Spain. Hosts India shall shall round off the opening day by kick-starting their campaign with Canada. 

The hosts will later face England on December 10th and play South Africa on December 12th as part of their Pool D league matches.
