Watch: Rs 5.7cr in new Rs 2000 notes, 32kg in bullion seized from secret bathroom chamber of Hawala operator in Karnataka

In one of the major cash and gold seizure cases, Income Tax officials have unearthed Rs 5.7 cr in new notes, Rs 90 lakh in old currency, 32 kg in bullion from a secret bathroom chamber of a hawala dealer in Karnataka. The raid was conducted on Friday.

The search operations were carried out on casino operators and bullion traders in Hubballi and Chitradurga districts of Karnatakaby Panaji Directorate of the Director General of Income-tax (Inv), Karnataka & Goa.

During the search operations, from a secret chamber in the bathroom of the residence of a hawala operator, 28 Kg of Bullion, about 4 KG of gold and Jewellary, 5.7 Crores of new currency in 2000 notes, and 90 lakhs in old 100 and 20 notes were seized.

Various incriminating documents have also been recovered and income tax teams are further analyzing and investigating the same.

Notably the major haul of new denomination currency is from a relatively small town Challakere in Chitradurga district. This small town with a population of 50,000 is 40 Km away from the district headquarters.
