New Delhi:

Aamir Khan's biopic film Dangal is the latest talk of the town. The film is based on the story of Dronacharya awardee Mahavir Singh Phogat, who fought against all odds to train his daughters in international wrestling.

Mahavir himself was an Indian amateur wrestler, but he dared to seek nothing less the sky for his daughters and trained them for international fame, inspiring a blockbuster on his life.

Here are some interesting facts about the man who inspired Dangal:

Mahavir Phogat is better known as the father and coach of Geeta Phogat, freestyle wrestler who has won India's first ever gold medal in wrestling at the Commonwealth Games, in 2010.

Apart from his four daughters and two nieces, Phogat is also a senior coach of the Indian team for Olympics. (Daughters — Geeta, Babita, Ritu, Sangeeta, and nieces Vinesh and Priyanka, whom he adopted after his brother's death)

He was the sole force behind training Geeta to become first-ever Indian woman wrestler to have qualified for the Olympics. While Geeta, Babita and Vinesh are international players, Ritu has won a gold medal at the national championship and Priyanka and Sangita have won medals in age-level international championships.
