Dehradun:
Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi on Monday advocated evolving a new language out of an assimilation of Garhwali and Kumaoni dialects of Uttarakhand, saying it can acquire the status of a state language.
"Evolving a new language which is a combination of the two dialects may also strengthen the bonding between the people living in the Kumaon and Garhwal regions of the state," Qureshi told at a Diwali get-together at Raj Bhawan.
Qureshi said he had discussed the matter with the Kumaon University Vice Chancellor who has assured of taking an effective initiative in this regard.
The matter can also be discussed with the state government, he said.
