If we talk about glorious days of Indian Hockey, then one name crops up in our mind and that is Major Dhyan Chand. But, the hockey wizards has been overlooked by the Indian government for the country’s highest award, Bharat Ratna.
Keeping all his achievements in mind, the British Parliament has decided to honour him as the ‘Pride of India’ on 25th July. On behave of Dhyan Chand, his son Ashok Chand has been invited to London for the award.
The man has helped India to cling three successive gold medals in Olympics games. The man had scored over 400 goals in his international carrier.
He was one of the nominees in 2014 for the Bharat Ratna, but Sachin Tendulkar and CN Rao received the award.
In 1936, when India won the gold medal in Berlin Games, Hitler offered him to join the German team but he denied the offer.
