Nominations of nearly 700 candidates for the February 8 Delhi elections have been found to be valid by poll authorities after scrutiny, officials said on Thursday. As many as 1,029 candidates had filed 1,528 nominations for the Delhi Assembly elections, according to data shared by the Delhi CEO's Office on Wednesday. On the last day of filing nominations on Tuesday, over 800 nominations were filed for the 70 assembly constituencies.. Among those who filed their nominations were Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal. Meanwhile, the campaigning for the Assembly Elections is in full swing in the national capital. Kejriwal held five roadshows on Thursday while BJP president Amit Shah addressed a rally in Matia Mahal. 

What Happened On 23 January:

Nominations of nearly 700 candidates for the February 8 Delhi elections have been found to be valid by poll authorities after scrutiny, officials said on Thursday. These nominations also include the 'cover' candidates. The last date to file nominations was January 21 and the same can be withdrawn by Friday.

Kejriwal had in recent past took a dig at Tiwari, a well known Bhojpuri actor, referring to him as a "good singer" who rendered 'Rinkiya Ke Papa', when asked for his views about Delhi BJP president.

The AAP and its chief Arvind Kejriwal mocking 'Rinkiya Ke Papa' song are "insulting" Purvanchalis and their culture, Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari said.

The CAA and the NRC would not have resonance in the Delhi Assembly polls, AAP's Rajinder Nagar candidate Raghav Chadha said. 

BJP leader Kapil Mishra terms the February 8 voting in national capital as "India vs Pakistan" battle.  



AAP's Hari Nagar candidate Dhillon has declared movable assets worth over Rs 1.12 crore while her husband owns assets worth Rs 25.67 crore and gold worth over Rs 33 lakh together.

Kejriwal has guaranteed free bus ride for students, deployment of mohalla marshals for women security, 24-hour supply of power and clean piped water to every household and reducing pollution to one-third.

In the battle for supremacy for the 70 seats, the AAP has been wooing the voters through host of populist schemes.

In the last phase of campaigning, Kejriwal will hold eight 'Town Hall' sessions at different locations of Delhi and will also carry out regular roadshows in different assembly constituencies.

Candidates from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) figure in the list of some of the richest in the fray for the Delhi Assembly polls, with its Mundka nominee Dharampal Lakra declaring assets of over Rs 292 crore, according to the affidavits filed before the poll officers.
