AAP MLA Manoj Kumar, who was denied ticket for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections by the party on Tuesday, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Kumar joined in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at a public rally. The AAP has fielded Kuldeep Kumar from the Kondli assembly constituency.
After joining the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Kondli legislator said the Kejriwal government is showing “false dreams” to the people. “I want to urge people of Kondli that if they want the same development as done by me in the last five years, they should vote for the BJP,” he said.
The high-stakes Delhi Assembly election is just days away. Polls to the 70-member Delhi Assembly promises to be a triangular contest with the AAP hoping to retain power on the plank of development and the BJP and the Congress determined to put up a spirited challenge. All major parties have announced their candidates for the February 8 polls. The counting of votes will be taken up on February 11.
Manoj Kumar was convicted for creating ruckus near a polling booth during 2013 assembly polls in New Delhi. According to the prosecution, over 50 protesters led by Kumar had caused hindrance in the election process at an MCD school during the 2013 Delhi Assembly election.
The protesters had also closed the main gate of the school due to which the police staff and election officers were locked inside the school, the prosecution said.
It had further said that when the voting was over, Kumar asked his volunteers not to allow the ballot boxes to be taken back and after closing the main gate, he sat in front of it.
