New Delhi:

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday swept the Delhi Assembly elections winning 62 seats in the 70-member House, with its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal set to become the chief minister for the third consecutive time in seven years. The BJP, which had won three seats in the 2015 polls, improved its tally to eight, while the Congress again failed to open its account even after five years.

Among the prominent AAP leaders who won the elections so far include Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia from Patparganj, Gopal Rai from Babarpur, Satyendar Jain from Shakur Basti, Raghav Chadha from Rajinder Nagar, Rakhi Birla from Mangolpuri, and Ajay Dutt from Ambedkar Nagar.

Celebrations broke out at AAP headquarters as trends showed that the party heading towards a comfortable majority. AAP office was decorated with blue and white balloons and big cut-outs of Kejriwal.

As against the February 14 buzz, Kejriwal proposed the Governor for the swearing-in ceremony on February 16. The Valentine’s Day is significant because in 2015, the historic Ramlila Maidan witnessed Kejriwal's oath as the chief minister of Delhi on February 14.

Before that Kejriwal resigned as chief minister February 14, 2014 after running a 49-day government. President’s Rule was imposed in Delhi on February 17, 2014, after then President Pranab Mukherjee accepted his resignation.

In fresh elections, the AAP staged a historic victory sweeping 67 of the 70 seats and leaving the BJP, which emerged as the single-largest party last time, with only three seats.

As the Election Commission stamps AAP's massive win, sources say, Kejriwal is unlikely to miss his date with February 14.
