Haryana: BJP to stake claim to form government tomorrow after legislative party meet

New Delhi:

BJP will stake claim to form the next government in Haryana on Saturday. The BJP legislative party will meet to elect their leader. Manohar Lal Khattar is expected to be re-elected in the meeting. After the meeting, the elected leader of the legislative party will meet the Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya to stake claim to form the government.

BJP, who won 40 out of 90 seats in Haryana assembly elections this year, fell six short of the majority figure. However, a total of nine MLAs including seven Independents have now extended their written support to the party for the formation of new government.

"There will be a meeting of the legislative party tomorrow at 11 am in Chandigarh. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and General Secretary Arun Singh will be there as Observers. Leader of legislative party will be elected tomorrow. After that we'll meet Guv to stake claims to form govt in Haryana," said Anil Jain of BJP.

Speaking to media, Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday said, "I am optimistic and we are going to form the government in Haryana."

Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Chautala also extended his support to BJP.  He is the sole elected member from his party. Earlier, Haryana Lokhit Party leader Gopal Kanda and seven Independent MLAs - Sombir Sangwan, Randhir Singh Gollen, Dharam Pal Gonder, Balraj Kundu, Nanyan Pal Rawat, Ranjit Singh, and Rakesh Daultabad - also extended their support.

Five of the seven Independents among the winners in Haryana are BJP rebels and contested on their own after they were denied tickets.
