New Delhi:

Counting of votes in Haryana assembly election is underway with the BJP looking to retain power, its hopes buoyed by exit polls that indicate an easy victory. However, as the counting began trends suggest BJP falling short of the majority mark in the 90-member assembly. BJP is leading in 40 seats, Congress in 33 seats and the Jannayak Janata Party in 11. Following the trends, Dushyant Chautala of the JJP said he will prove to be the king-maker claiming his party is winning at least 20 seats.

According to sources, former Punjab chief minister and patron of Shiromani Akali Dal Parkash Singh Badal is likely to mediate between the BJP and JJP.

“No party will be able to form the government without the JJPs help,” Dushyant Chautala said. “We hold the key to power,” Chautala claimed, referring to his party’s poll symbol of a key.

INLDs Abhay Chautala meanwhile said a split assembly would be thrown up on Thursday and neither the Congress nor the BJP will cross 35 seats.
